Tour Highlights
- A Secret Railroad That Predated the Subway. In 1870, an engineer secretly built a pneumatic passenger tube beneath Broadway. The city had no idea.
- Ghost Stations Sliding Past Your Window. Ride the 6 train as shuttered, century-old stations drift past in the dark; frozen in time, invisible to every other rider.
- A Museum No One Knows They’re Standing In. World-class mosaics, Guastavino arches, and 1904 tilework — in stations millions pass through every week without looking up.
- How Tunnels Changed Everything. The subway didn’t just connect New York — it created it. Learn how the first lines determined where neighborhoods grew and where fortunes were made.
- Discreet wireless earpieces included, hear every word, even over the trains.

Very enjoyable tour of the subway Really enjoyed this tour. Our guide Pete was really knowledgeable and answer all our questions. It’s a little be different to the ‘normal’ tourist tour, and great to just slow down and actually look around and notice things you wouldn’t normally pay attention too. I’d highly recommend the tour of subways.

November 2025 tour with Pete I had a great afternoon exploring the subway with Pete and a small group. He provided excellent facts and told the story of the subway’s origins. We got to see hidden details and views of abandoned stations I never noticed before. I highly recommend this tour!

Great Learning Experience for Families/Teenagers We took this tour with our teenage sons for my husband’s birthday trip to NYC. Our guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and we learned a lot and had fun. We especially enjoyed checking out some of the abandoned stations and looking at beautiful tile mosaics and other decorative station elements from the early 20th century. Highly recommend!

Very interesting and worth knowing tour Very interesting tour. It was a bit hard for us to find the meeting place, but that worked out well. In a small group we were informed about the historical background of public transport and today’s metro. The guide also had pictures on the tablet. The tour then went over some subway stations with interesting information about each. The tour was in English.

Great tour of nyc subway system! Our tour guide, Rayn, was fantastic. He is very personable and made the whole group feel a part of the tour. It was clear that the NYC subway system is a passion for Rayn and his energy for the topic was infectious. The tour included history, art, information about the transit system itself, and nyc. It was a perfect blend to keep the whole thing engaging. Hopping from train to train and station to station was fun. We all gained a new appreciation for the marvel of the nyc transit system. Definitely recommended.

Itinerary
About This Tour
Whether you ride it daily or just arrived in New York, you’ve never experienced the subway like this.
Most people treat the New York City subway as a way to get somewhere else. This tour makes it the destination.
Over two hours, you’ll move through active and historic stations with a local expert guide — uncovering the ghost stations that slip past most riders’ windows, the world-class art hiding in plain sight, and the century-old architectural details that daily commuters have tuned out entirely. You’ll ride the 6 train to a place most New Yorkers don’t know exists. You’ll stand in stations that were once the engineering wonders of their age, and hear the stories of the people who built them, fought over them, and occasionally lived in them.
This isn’t a transit lesson. It’s a 2-hour look at the city that exists just underneath the one everyone thinks they know.
